But the bible says that their horses are flesh, not spirit. Isaiah 31:3 reads, "But the Egyptians are men and not God; their horses are flesh and not spirit." When a man is dwelling in Egypt, he won't have trusted in the Lord. Those people trust in material strength, body, and in their intelligence. In Phillipians 3:4, Paul gives an illustration of his earlier attitude. Paul says he was circumcised at the age of the 8th day. The Hebrews considered the uncircumcised in a very low state. Secondly, Paul says that he belongs to Israel. The Israelites are the chosen race, and the Jews were proud of it. Thirdly, he says that he belongs to the tribe of Benjamin because the first king Saul came from the tribe of Benjamin. It was a prestigious thing to him. Fourthly, he says he is a Hebrew of the Hebrews. This means that both his father and mother are Hebrews, again, proud of the family lineage. Fifthly, a Pharisee, a person who is a expert in Moses laws as a result, he got the title of Pharisee. Sixthly, blameless according to the law, shows his zeal to persecute the church. From these statements, we can understand that the Egyptians' spirit prevailed on Paul. If a man keeps his trust in flesh, he cannot stand straight. A worldly man cannot stand before God. In Job 33:26, we see this.
EIGHTH, the cruelty of Egypt is mentioned in Exodus 1:13.
"Egyptians came to dread the Israelites and worked them ruthlessly." Continously extracting without mercy, love, and gentleness." All those who practice this has the spirit of Egypt.
NINTH, the land of Egypt is a land filled with wealth according to Hebrews 11:26.
Moses didn't put his trust in Egyptian wealth and pomp. He expressed his solidarity with the persecuted fellow Hebrews. If we go before the pleasures of the world, he will be trapped in it. Treasures are the place where a man's heart is planted in.
TENTH, Egypt is referred to as a shadow.
Isaiah 30:2 speaks on those who go down to Egypt without consulting the Holy God. Trusting in the shadow of Egypt. It contains all comforts you can find. A Godly person should look into the shadow where God is our refuge. This must be our right side of rest. Micah 2:10 also says the same thing. "Get up, go away for this is not your resting place, because it is defiled, it is ruined, beyond all remedy." Similarly, you should never regard this world as a shadow to take refuge. The pleasures of this world will defile you. In Lamentation 4:20, "The Lord's anointed, our very life breath, was caught in their traps. We thought that under his shadow we would live among the nations."
ELEVENTH, Egypt is compared to a yoke.
The Lord broke the yoke and straightened us. When the people of Israel were in Egypt, they were under slavery which the Egyptians imposed upon them. SInce the yoke is too difficult to carry, the Lord came and stretched out his hands and brought us out. Before being saved, we were under this terrible condition. In Phillipians 3:12, it reads, "I press on you to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me."
In conclusion, may God bless you to be seriously thinking and thanking him for taking you out from the miserable condition of Egypt which is a symbol of our own slavery to sin and the devil. May God help you to preserve the salvation you have received. |
